The Mirror.

How beautiful thou art,

Fairer than the daisies in the meadows,

With the sun casting a heavenly glow on thy face,

And the angels singeth in most holy praise of thy enchanted beauty.

Okay, let’s skip the Shakespeare a bit and get real.

Smoothly carved with precision and style,

Made for the purpose of reflection

It has caused the death of many

And boosted the confidence of many.

It has no mouth

But it makes you speak for it.

What it shows you,

Be it true or not,

Is what you say out loud,

“oh, I’m so skinny…fat…pretty…ugly…neutral.”

It didn’t say those words, you did.

It has no authority over you,

Yet you consult it for any reason visible.

It shows you what others won’t tell you.

You see yourself in it and let out a cry.

You think you’re slim till you look in the mirror.

You think you’re ugly till you look in the mirror.

Your friends tell you one thing,

The mirror tells you another

Yes, the glass has got a mind of its own,

But nigga’s got no mouth to speak out.

It’s stable, stationed, mobile.

You move it around, keep it where you please.

But it makes you rethink everything you want to do in a day.

Look, that object called mirror has done both good and bad, no deed outweighs the other.

It carries out its job in balance.

It has made people confident enough to win a contest.

It has made others want to lose weight to the extent of them having a severe eating disorder.

That object didn’t say anything, no! you said what it showed you. You hated how you looked because of an object that has no mouth or capability of doing anything.

One thing you should know and put into use is that no matter what it shows you…someone will say the opposite. It might make you confident, but another’s mouth will pop your bubble.

The mirror does nothing, it only shows you a reflection of yourself.

And it lies.

If you keep dwelling on what it shows you, you might never be able to find your true self because you keep depending on your covering for happiness.

C’mon don’t be mad at it, it’s just serving its purpose, but you don’t let it control your life.

Even if one person will tell you you’re ugly, fat, thin, absolutely disgusting, one person

Just one person,

Will tell you the opposite.

Come, let me be your mirror…I’ll try not to be too harsh, but one thing you need to know is you are beautiful just the way you are.

Cover girls are all propaganda, there are different people in the industry.

Look into my eyes and believe me when I tell you this;

“sometimes…the mirror lies…”

YOU just have to figure out your confidence source and tap into it when you need a boost.

You only say what you see in the mirror right?

So, don’t say everything

Don’t let the way it presents your face weigh you down completely for the rest of the day,

It probably wasn’t placed right or the light was playing a trick on your face, or it probably wanted to lie.

Either way!

You shouldn’t trust the mirror.

Even if it always shows you good things,

One day, it will show you the polar opposite.

And you’ll be left broken.

Back to the Shakespeare.

How fair am I,

With the love of my kindred,

And admiration from my beloved.

I dance in the sunlight,

Barefoot in the grass

Standing tall and mighty proud.

For I know,

I will always be the fairest of them all.
